Craig “Rudy” Rue, of Owatonna, passed away February 19, 2020, surrounded by family at Three Links Hospice in Northfield, MN
How do you tell a loved one’s life story in a couple of paragraphs? It is the dash between the dates that says it all.
Craig Lowell Rue (but everyone knew him as Rudy) was born in Windom, MN, February 8th, 1950. He was raised in Lakefield, MN, a Rue family town for generations. He attended Pleasant View Elementary School and Lakefield High School, where he met the love of his life, Linea Wright. He played football, baseball, basketball, lettering in all. Rudy earned Life level in Boy Scouts. The badge was a red heart- which was one of his most used emoji’s. He attended college in Marshall, MN, but left to enlist in the United States Navy in 1970 serving until his Honorable discharge in 1974.
Rudy worked at Von Ruden manufacturing, Owatonna Tool Company (for 21 years), owner operator of the Claremont Pub, and then worked at Schwan’s for 17 years retiring in 2015.
If you were to describe Rudy, these words encompass his essence: sense of humor, dimples, people person, smart, (he was the family google before google was invented), laid back, and he inherited his father’s love for crossword puzzles and cribbage.
What did Rudy love?
First and foremost, his family, fishing, hunting, sports, his friends from work, cooking, the Food Channel, gambling, the people he delivered to at Schwan’s, (they kept him well supplied with produce which he so appreciated), mowing, keeping a beautiful yard, did we say “fishing”, anything outdoors. He was always willing to help others which is why he did so well in jobs that involved people. He especially loved his technology, that he didn’t know how to use. Rudy was essentially a down to earth, kind man.
We couldn’t end this without mentioning Rudy’s favorite place in the world- Fall Lake outside Ely. He spent almost every summer of his life there fishing. There is even a special rock named by the family - Rue Rock. This was the place where all the brothers earned badges for Boy Scouts, under the guidance of their dad, Bernard.
We love you and will miss you always. You are alive in our hearts forever.
Rudy is survived by his beloved wife, of 49 years, Linea “Bun”; two daughters, Anissa “Dida” (Logan Christianson) Schwab, Missy “Bugz” Rue; two brothers, David (Kaye) Rue, and Keith (Sheri) Rue; two granddaughters, Maddie and Hannah Schwab, many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Bernard and Vi (Casper) Rue; and one brother, Bruce “Moose”.
