Martha Jane (Larson) Warehime passed away May 18, 2019 at Timberdale Trace Assisted Living in Owatonna, MN.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on June 15, 2019 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Owatonna. Visitation will precede the service from 2-3 pm.
Martha was an only child born on September 1, 1937 in El Reno, Oklahoma to Albert and Margaret (Peterson) Larson. Martha lost both of her parents at a young age. Her father died of suicide in 1943 when Martha was 5 years old. Her mother remarried Roger Enstrom in 1947. Roger Enstrom was the son of Eric Enstrom, a photographer in Bovey, MN who took the photograph of the, now, famous “Grace Picture” which became Minnesota’s State Photograph.
Less than one year after remarrying, Martha’s mother died of heart attack in 1948 when Martha was 10 years old. Martha always remembered fondly her stepfather, Roger, who vowed to take care of her when her mother died.
Martha graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine, MN and from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in elementary education. She taught kindergarten in Olivia, Minnesota where she met her husband, Edwin Warehime who was a livestock buyer for Hormel.
Martha and Ed were married April 20, 1963 in Coleraine, Minnesota and made their home in Bird Island, Minnesota, where their two children, Roger and Fern (named after Martha’s step-parents), were born.
In 1967 Martha moved with her family to Mitchell, SD where she resided until 1983. She lived a few years in Ottumwa, IA before moving to Fremont, NE where Ed retired from Hormel. She continued living in Fremont until 2012 when she moved to Owatonna to be closer to her children after her husband passed away in 2011.
Martha is survived by her children, Roger (and Kristin) Warehime and Fern (and Terry) Nesvig, and grandchildren Jacob Warehime, Jackie Warehime, and Casey Nesvig. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-parents, and husband.
