Georgette Maas

January 31, 1927 ~ November 4, 2018 (age 91)

Georgette Ida Maas age 91 of Medford, MN passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018. She was born January 31, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio to George and Rose Babos. Georgie grew up in Szeged, Hungary where she lived with her aunt and uncle. She returned to the U.S. at the age of 19 and studied horticulture at Penn State University.  There she earned her bachelor’s degree. After graduation Georgie became the first woman ever accepted to the Master of Horticulture program at the University of Minnesota. But God had a different plan for Georgie. In the fall of 1952 while interning at Farmer’s Seed and Nursery in Faribault, she met the love of her life Francis.  Georgie and Francis were married in the summer of ‘53. Together they raised 9 children on a farm near Medford. She approached all projects with boundlessenergy. Georgie took much joy in tending her gardens, sewing, and cooking for her large family and friends.  Her greatest joy, however, was found in her deep faith. Georgie was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church for 66 years. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters – Court Saint Anne #1840, a sacristan, cared for the altar flowers and taught religious education.

She is survived by her sons Paul (Cyndi) Maas, Michael Maas & Mary Losinski, David (Kim) Maas, Ray Maas & Jorge Mendez, daughters Carla (Byron) Brady, Barbara Maas & Roger Avelsgaard, Joan Hubert & Tim Beson, Dee Maas & Dick Gillis, Franny Maas and her sister, Mary Ann Francis. Georgie was blessed with 32 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Francis, her parents and her brother, John Babos.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday November 11, 2018 at Brick-Meger Funeral Home, Owatonna. There will be a Catholic Daughters of America rosary recited at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday November 12, 2018 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Medford. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Homestead Hospice Patient Care Fund or the Resurrection Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
