Alfred Justin Jandro of Owatonna passed away Thursday, June 20 at the age of 81, surrounded by loving family.
Known to most as ‘Fred’, ‘Al’, or ‘Zeke’, he was born December 20, 1937 in Faribault, MN, and graduated from Bethlehem Academy high school. A longtime worker for the MN Highway Dept. and later, Viracon, Inc., Fred settled in Owatonna with his wife Edith (Manion), whom he married in 1966.
In his spare time, Fred enjoyed fishing, landscaping, visiting friends, tinkering in his garage, and spending time with his grandchildren and extended family. An avid sports fan, he also loved attending Minnesota Vikings and Twins games. A good storyteller, Fred liked to regale his family and friends with stories from his youth, including many tales of life on the farm and travels in his early adulthood. He was a movie buff, especially enjoying old westerns and action films. Fred belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Fred will be missed by his wife, Edith, of Owatonna; two daughters, Kelly, of Owatonna; Terri (Jim) Lutes of Harmony, MN; and son, Tim (Rachel) of Andover, MN; grandchildren Erin (Justin) Cady, Halle, Collin, Nick, and Luke; great-grandchildren Jackson and Lydia; brothers Tom, Joe, and Eli; sisters Lois Malecha, Betty Mullenberg, and Diane Rech; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth (Vandeputte), and six brothers, Stanley, Cyril, Howard, Wally, Roger, and Dale.
Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna on Tuesday, June 25 at 11 am, with visitation beginning at 10 am. For more information or to leave an online condolence message go to www.brick-megerfuneralhome.com
