Francis “Frank” Krumholz, age 92, passed away June 20, 2019, at home, surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Owatonna. On Wednesday, June 26, a Rosary service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Friends may greet the family from 5-7 p.m. at the Brick Meger Funeral Home, Owatonna, and one-hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery will follow the Mass. Military Honors will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit.
Frank was born on July 29, 1926 in Arcadia, WI, the son of Dr. Francis C. and Louise (Reuter) Krumholz. He grew up in Arcadia where he attended school and worked on the family farm during the summer. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he served until he was honorably discharged in November 1945.
Frank attended Marquette University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1949. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Roache on October 13, 1951 in Blue Earth, MN. The couple initially made their home on a farm in Independence, WI before moving to La Crescent, MN (1958) and Milwaukee, WI (1964) when Frank worked for Allis Chalmers. In 1967, the family moved to Owatonna and Frank began his career at Owatonna Manufacturing Company, until its closure in 1986. Afterwards, Frank worked as a project manager for the Wenger Corporation until his retirement in 1996.
Frank loved fixing and maintaining mechanical things, gardening and any work outside. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the American Society of Mechanical Engineering and a former member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
Frank is survived by wife, Kathleen, of 67 years; eight children: Mary Clifford, Brooklyn Park, MN; Charles (Betsey) Krumholz, Burlington, VT; Patricia Federly, Medford, MN; Margaret Bentwood (Andrew Huff), Helena, MT; Dr. Michael (LaDonna) Krumholz, Minnetonka, MN; Nancy (William) Burns, Cary, NC; Sheila Krumholz (Daniel Oshtry), Washington, D.C.; and Kevin (Carissa) Krumholz, Owatonna, MN. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, one sister, Rosemary (John) Woell, Battle Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and two sons-in-law.
Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Mary’s School or the Owatonna Foundation.
