Barbara Strand

August 12, 1939 ~ December 31, 2018 (age 79)

Barbara Strand, 79, of Owatonna went to be with her beloved husband Willard on December 31, 2018. She died at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

Barb was born on August 12, 1939, in Springfield, MN, the daughter of George and Agnes (Guse) Fischer. Barb married Willard Strand on February 15, 1958. They resided in Owatonna, MN, where they raised their five children.

Barb was employed by Hy-Vee for 33 years, serving in a variety of capacities, including manager of the pizza department.

Anyone who met Barb loved her zest for life and wonderful sense of humor. She was very sociable and quickly made friends. She was a great listener who always had a quick smile and a kind word of encouragement to make someone else’s day better.

She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church for more than 50 years. She was part of the church’s prayer group and served for a number of years beside her husband in his roles as Grand Knight for the Owatonna Knights of Columbus Council and, subsequently, as Minnesota’s State Deputy.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband Willard. She is survived by her daughter Tammy (Don) Moore of Dallas, TX; daughter Susan (Steve) Masemer of Loretto MN; daughter Diane Strand of Eagan MN; son Dan (Jennifer) Strand of Ohio; and daughter Deb (Steve) Hegard of Owatonna. She was very proud of her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Three of her grandchildren serve in the Armed Forces.

Barb holds a special place in the hearts of her family and friends and will be dearly missed, not only by her loved ones, but also her faithful dog companion, Scooter.

Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, January 5, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Friday, January 4, 2019, from 4-7 p.m. at Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road, Owatonna) and one hour before the funeral liturgy at the church. The Knights of Columbus Council 945 will offer a rosary at 7:00 p.m., in respect of Barb’s husband Willard. He served the KCs in numerous offices at local, district and state levels. In 2003, he became just the third individual from Owatonna Council 945 to assume Minnesota’s top office of State Deputy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Cards can be sent to the Brick-Meger Funeral Home at 1603 Austin Road, Owatonna, MN 55060. For more information or to leave an online condolence message go to www.brick-megerfuneralhome.com
