About Us

The Brick-Meger Funeral Home has had a longtime presence in Owatonna. Founded in 1897, the original location was on Cedar Avenue in downtown Owatonna. This location served as both a funeral home and furniture store. Around the turn of the century, funeral directors were also cabinetmakers. The undertaker would make all the burial arrangements with the family and then return to his shop to construct the casket.

In 1964, the business moved to it present location on Austin Road. Through the 112-year history of the business, it has seen several changes in ownership. Bill Brick ran the business until 1988. James Postlewaite assumed ownership at that time and operated it until the present owner, Glen A. Meger, took over in 2000.

Glen A. Meger
Owner

Glen A. Meger is the owner of Brick-Meger Funeral Home and the Medford Funeral Home. A native of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, he attended Minnesota State University Mankato and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Mortuary Science. He and his wife Cheryl make their home in Owatonna and are the proud parents of three sons; Mike, Alex and Brett. Glen is an avid wrestling fan having followed Mike and Alex through their high school and collegiate  wrestling careers. He is also a certified wrestling official and referees at the high school level matches in various locations across Southern Minnesota.

Tim Thomas
Mortician

Tim Thomas is a Minnesota-licensed mortician and has twenty years of funeral service experience in the Owatonna and Medford areas. Tim served six years in the U.S. Navy and he is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Mortuary Science. He also has advanced education and training in forensic death investigation. Tim is very active in the Owatonna community. He has appeared in numerous theatrical productions with the Little Theater of Owatonna and the Merlin Players. He had served for over ten years as the Flower Dept. Superintendent for the Steele County Free Fair, in addition to being a member of the organizing committee for Owatonna's Festival of the Arts. Another interest for Tim is landscape design, with an emphasis on container gardening.

Tim Rice
Public Relations/Advertising

Tim Rice handles the advertising and public relations for the Brick-Meger organization. He brings experience in this field after a 32-year career with Federated Insurance. Rice graduated from Truman State University with a degree in Business Administration.

He and his wife Linda are the proud parents of two children and five grandchildren. Tim is active in the Owatonna Knights of Columbus, where he is an Honorary Member, and served at the state level as a District Deputy for more than four years.

In addition to his advertising and public relations duties, he is available to assist at funerals and visitations.

John (Jack) Dillemuth
Assistant Director

John (Jack) Dillemuth is  a Director's Assistant for the Brick - Meger organization. He has worked part-time for the past 13 years. 

He works as a greeter for visitations and memorial ceremonies.  He assists at funeral services, and is a driver of the funeral coach. Jack had this to say about his position, "I am very humbled to be of assistance to the grieving family and relatives."

He grew up in Owatonna and Steele County, graduating from Owatonna High School, and was a volunteer fireman for many years. In addition Jack has been Special Deputy with the Steele County Sheriff's Department for over 50 years. He is presently a part-time Bailiff/Jury Attendant for the District Judges at the Steele County Court System. 

He was employed at OTC/SPX Corporation for over 41 years after high school, and worked in all phases of the plant, with the last 23 years as a Manufacturing Engineer in the Process and Production Engineering Department.

He and wife Marilyn have been happily married for over 52 years. They have three grown children and seven grandchildren in their immediate family.
